Rep. Horsford has been serving as the U.S. House Representative for Nevada’s 4th congressional district since 2019. Horsford previously represented the district from 2012 to 2014 before being unseated. Horsford is the first Black U.S. House Member to represent Nevada. Prior to Congress, Horsford served in the Nevada State Senate from 2004 to 2012 and was the State Senate Majority Leader from 2009 to 2012. In 2023, Horsford succeeded Rep. Joyce Beatty (OH-03) to become the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC).
Nevada’s 4th congressional district is located in the central part of the state, which includes most of northern Clark County and southern Lyon County, most of Lincoln County, a sliver of Churchill County and all of Esmeralda, Mineral, and Nye counties. Over 80% of its population lives in the heavily Democratic northern portion of Clark County, and as a result, the district leans Democratic. In the 2024 race Rep. Horsford was challenged by former mayor of North Las Vegas, John Lee. Rep. Horsford defeated Lee by 8 percentage points (26,865 votes). Rep. Horsford raised $5.4 million and his opponent, Lee, raised $1.6 million. Super PACs, national party committees, and other non-candidate groups together spent over $3 million in this district.
