Rep. Kim Schrier has been the U.S. House Representative for Washington’s 8th congressional district since 2019. Prior to Congress, Schrier was a practicing pediatrician. She is the first pediatrician to serve in Congress. Washington’s 8th district straddles both sides of the Cascade Mountains and includes eastern King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties. Seattle, the largest city in the state as well as the Pacific Northwestern region of the country, is situated in close proximity to the 7th District.
In 2018, Schrier turned the district blue for the first time since its creation. Redistricting prior to the 2022 cycle made Washington’s 8th congressional district—a perennial swing district— marginally bluer. In the 2024 election, Rep. Schrier faced a challenge from Republican businesswoman Carmen Goers. Schrier defeated Goers by almost 9 percentage points (33,932 votes). Rep. Schrier raised a stunning $6.5 million this cycle and out fundraised her opponent by more than $6 million. Rep. Schrier has solidly won this district the past few cycles, so outside spending wasn’t much of a factor in this race. Super PACs, and politically active nonprofits, and other non-candidate groups together spent just over $400,000 in this race.
