Rep. John Mannion was elected to serve New York’s 22nd congressional district in 2024. Mannion is a lifelong Central New Yorker, whose family immigrated to the United States in the 20th century. Prior to serving in Congress, Mannion built a strong legislative record serving in the New York State Senate representing the 50th district.
As the newly elected Representative for New York’s 22nd congressional district, Rep. Mannion serves all of Madison and Onondaga Counties, and parts of Cayuga, Cortland, and Oneida Counties. Significant cities in the district include Syracuse and Utica, and there are 6 major universities in the district. Ahead of the 2022 race, this district changed under the redistricting process: the newly renumbered NY-22 seat, formerly numbered NY-24 under the old lines, was held by longtime Republican incumbent Rep. Brandon Williams. In 2024, Mannion challenged the incumbent and defeated him by 9 percentage points (32,511 votes). Fundraising in this race was neck and neck, with both Rep. Mannion and Williams raising $4.1 million. Super PACs, national party committees, and other non-candidate groups spent $12.3 million in this race.
