Rep. Scholten has been serving as the U.S. House Representative for the 3rd Congressional District of Michigan since 2023. Prior to her position in Congress, she worked as a caseworker before attending law school. After law school, she worked as an attorney for the Department of Justice under President Obama. After Trump’s election, she returned to Michigan and joined the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center as an attorney.
Michigan’s 3rd congressional district includes portions of Muskegon, Ottawa, and Kent counties. In the 2024 race, Rep. Scholten faced off and ultimately defeated the GOP challenger and attorney Paul Hudson by 10 points (41,558 votes). During the 2024 cycle, Rep. Scholten raised $5.2 million, and her opponent, Hudson, raised $950,000. Several super PACs, national party committees, politically active nonprofits, and other non-candidate groups together spent more than just shy of a million dollars. This is Rep. Scholten’s second time seeking reelection in this district.
