Rep. Landsman has been the U.S. House Representative for Ohio’s 1st congressional district since 2023. Prior to Congress, he worked as a public school teacher and then served on the Cincinnati City Council from 2018 to 2022.
Ohio’s 1st Congressional District encompasses Cincinnati — the third-largest city in Ohio — and portions of the suburbs, including the majority-conservative Warren County. Following redistricting ahead of 2022, the whole city of Cincinnati was drawn into the 1st for the first time, giving Democrats an edge. In the 2022 election, Rep. Landsman faced off and ultimately defeated GOP incumbent Rep. Chabot by 4.9 points (14,205 votes). Rep. Landsman had another solid victory in 2024 as he defeated Republican challenger and veteran, Orlando Sonza by 9 percentage points (35,923 votes). During the 2024 cycle, Rep. Landsman significantly outraised his opponent: by the end of Q3, Rep. Landsman had more than 5 times cash on hand than Sonza. Rep. Landsman raised a total of $3.7 million. Given Rep. Landsman’s solid victory in 2022 and sound fundraising, outside spending wasn’t much of a factor in this race. Super PACs, national party committees, politically active nonprofits, and other non-candidate groups only spent $541,395 in this district last cycle.
