Rep. Davis has served as the U.S. House Representative for the 1st congressional district of North Carolina since 2023. Prior to Congress, Davis represented the 5th district in the North Carolina Senate from 2009 to 2011 and from 2013 to 2023. Additionally, he served as the mayor of Snow Hill for seven years.
In 2023, the new conservative majority on the NC State Supreme Court issued a ruling that gave the GOP-leaning state legislature total control to redraw the congressional maps and they drew a GOP Gerrymander. NC-01 now includes the northern portion of Dare County, which is considerably more conservative. The district notably lost the city of Greenville. In the 2024 race, Rep. Davis faced off and ultimately defeated the GOP challenger and former Army Colonel Laurie Buckhout by 1 point (6,307 votes). During the 2024 cycle, Davis raised $5.9 million, and his opponent, Buckhout, raised $4.5 million. More than a dozen super PACs, national party committees, politically active nonprofits, and other non-candidate groups together spent more than $27 million. This is Rep. Davis’s third time seeking reelection in this district.
