Democratic Toss Up
Kaptur has been the U.S. House House of Representatives for Ohio’s 9th congressional district since 1983. Kaptur is the longest-serving woman in the House and the dean of Ohio’s congressional district. Prior to Congress, she served as a domestic policy advisor during former President Carter’s administration.
Redistricting has made Kaptur’s seat significantly more red, turning what was a reliably safe Democratic district into a Republican-leaning swing seat. Through redistricting, her seat gained significant portions of the rural northwest area. In 2020, Rep. Kaptur was reelected by 26.2 points, and President Biden won the district by 19.4 points. Under the new district lines, President Trump would have won the seat by 2.8 points. This district is expected to be heavily targeted by Republicans. She is running against veteran and project manager Majewski. In the third quarter of 2022, Kaptur raised $1 million and has $1.1 million in cash on hand, significantly more than Majewski, who raised $490,000 and has $240,000 cash on hand.
