Democratic Toss Up

Golden has been serving in the U.S House Representative for Maine’s 2nd congressional district since 2019. Prior to Congress, he served in the Maine House of Representatives from 2014-2018, representing District 60. He is a U.S Marine veteran, who served combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Redistricting has made Maine’s 2nd congressional district marginally more Democratic. The new district now includes the state capital of Augusta. In 2020, Rep. Golden was reelected by 6 points, and former President Trump won the district by 7.7 points. Under the new district lines, Trump would have won the seat by 6.3 points. He is running against former U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin. Poliquin represented ME-02 district from 2014 to 2019 until he was narrowly defeated by Golden in 2018 by 1.2 points. As one of only seven Democrats to represent a seat that Trump won in 2020 and a true swing district, this seat is expected to be hotly contested. In the third quarter of 2022, Golden raised $1.3 million and Poliquin, who raised $662,774, though they both have $1.2 million cash on hand.
