Mrvan has served in the U.S. House of Representatives for Indiana’s 1st congressional district since 2021. Following the retirement of incumbent Rep. Pete Visclosky (D), who served Indiana’s 1st from 1985 to 2021, the district was open. Before Congress, Mrvan worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative and licensed mortgage broker, and he also served on the North Township Board for three years.
Through redistricting, the 1st district has very few changes to it and it is is considered a lean democrat race. Blue-collar Northwest Indiana has trended right, and in 2020 Joe Biden won the district by just 8.9 points. Meanwhile, in 2020 Mrvan was elected by 16.2 points yet did not have a credible GOP opponent. Under the new district lines, President Biden would have won the district by 8.5 points. While the race is expected to favor Democrats, Indiana Republicans have ramped up efforts to target this seat seriously for the first time in decades. Rep. Mrvan is running against Jennifer-Ruth Green (R), a commercial pilot and Air Force veteran, who has slightly outraised Mrvan at this point in the race, and despite Rep. Mrvan’s incumbency, they have virtually the same cash on hand going into the summer. Mravn raised $935,560 in the third quarter, while Green actually significantly surpassed him, and raised $1.3 million. Mrvan has $390,000 cash on hand, while Green has $900,000 cash on hand.
